Fresh Outbreak of Manipur Violence in Jbam District: Houses Set Ablaze, Hundreds Seek Shelter
Manipur Violence has witnessed a fresh outbreak in the Jbam District, with multiple houses reportedly set ablaze in several villages in the Western District. This district, which borders the neighboring Assam state, has been plagued by militancy, leading to the latest incident that has left hundreds of people seeking shelter.
According to district officials, several houses were burned primarily in the peripheral areas of the district, although the exact number is yet to be confirmed. In response to the Manipur violence, a Commando contingent of the Manipur police was airlifted from Imphal to Jbam to support security operations against the militants.
The violence erupted after the killing of a man allegedly by militants on June 6. Consequently, the District administration imposed an indefinite curfew. The ongoing conflict in the state has claimed the lives of over 200 people and left thousands homeless.
Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, attributed the immediate triggers for the violence to his government’s efforts against drugs, the implementation of the Indian Forest Act, and the identification of illegal immigrants.

The situation remains tense, with approximately 239 people, mostly women and children, evacuated from their villages and currently seeking shelter in the sports complex in the town. Evacuation efforts are ongoing, with authorities working to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
