Despite initial high expectations for “The Color Purple”, it was Brooks who ultimately secured the film’s only nomination.

“I am truly grateful for everything that has come my way. I know that none of this would be possible without the support of others, and we all understand that success cannot be achieved alone,” Brooks shared enthusiastically through a Zoom call all the way from New Zealand, where she is currently filming a movie.
