Oscar Nominations has been started Amidst being a chaotic year in the film industry, But the Academy Awards wasted no time in recognizing Christopher Nolan’s impressive biographical film, “Oppenheimer.“

The blockbuster hit received an astounding 13 nominations, cementing its place as a top contender for the coveted Best Picture award. Not only did Nolan’s masterful direction earn him a nomination, but the film also received recognition for its stellar performances by Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt.

Additionally, the film was praised for its sweeping and intricate details, earning it multiple nominations in the craft categories. With its gripping portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s life, “Oppenheimer” has solidified its place as a leading film in this year’s Oscars nominations.

Despite being praised as a master filmmaker with a grand vision, Nolan has yet to receive an Academy Award, a feat that has also eluded any of his movies.

However, this could finally be his year. Reflecting on the surprising success of his latest project – a sprawling drama interwoven with complex dialogue and historical events, yet still managing to rake in close to $1 billion – Nolan expressed his admiration for the extraordinary story of Oppenheimer.

Nolan reminisced about his childhood and his love for the Hollywood movie industry, always believing that studio productions have the ability to take on any challenge.

Witnessing the enthusiastic response from audiences this past summer left him exhilarated, and now also receiving such recognition from the esteemed academy, Nolan exclaims with awe, “I am speechless. This truly solidifies our belief in the immense potential of studio filmmaking.“

“The highly-anticipated award season has officially arrived and one film, in particular, is leading the pack.

“Barbie,” the record-breaking box office hit, raked in multiple nominations, just shy of matching its partner in the popular “Barbenheimer” frenzy. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the feminist comedy raked in an impressive $1.4 billion in ticket sales and secured eight nominations, including a nod for Best Picture, Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor, and two songs vying for Best Song, “What Was I Made For” and “I’m Just Ken.”

Despite her previous nomination in 2018 for her debut film “Lady Bird,” Gerwig was surprisingly snubbed in the Best Director category. She was only the fifth woman in history to be recognized in this category at the time. However, since then, powerhouse female directors Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) and Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”) given us so much entertainment

“Lily Gladstone, known for her role in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” made history as the first Native American actress to receive a nomination for best actress.

Meanwhile, renowned director Martin Scorsese continued to add to his impressive record with his 10th nomination for best director.

“The talented Leonardo DiCaprio unfortunately did not receive a best actor nomination”. In a bittersweet moment, the late Robbie Robertson, who passed away in August, became the first Indigenous person to be nominated for best score.”

The Oscar nominations for the coveted title of Best Picture included “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Holdovers,” “Maestro,” “American Fiction,” “Past Lives,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” and “The Zone of Interest.”

This prestigious list, closely resembling the nominations for the Producers Guild Awards, did not come as a surprise. Critics praised it as a strikingly strong selection of films.

Notably, three of the nominees were helmed by female directors for the first time: Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” for which she also received a best director nod, and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.”

The category for “Best Actor” in oscar nominations was undoubtedly one of the most fiercely fought competitions. In the end, the nominees who rose above the rest were Murphy, Paul Giamatti with his role in “The Holdovers,” Jeffrey Wright for his performance in “American Fiction,” Bradley Cooper for “Maestro,” and Colman Domingo for his portrayal of civil rights icon Bayard Rustin in “Rustin.”

Domingo’s nomination added a monumental milestone to his career, as he became only the second openly gay man to be recognized for playing a gay character in the history of the award ceremony. This significant achievement had only previously been accomplished by Ian McKellen in 1998 for his role in “Gods and Monsters.”

The Nominations for best actress was fierce too, as it featured talented nominees like Gladstone and Stone. Carey Mulligan for her role in “Maestro,” Annette Bening for “Nyad,” and Sandra Hüller for “Anatomy of a Fall” were also in the running. However, notable omissions included Margot Robbie, who starred in “Barbie,” and Fantasia Barrino from “The Color Purple.”

In the category of best supporting actress, all eyes were on Da’Vine Joy Randolph from “The Holdovers” as she confidently made her way towards her potential first Oscar win. She was accompanied by a talented group including Blunt, Danielle Brooks from “The Color Purple”, Jodie Foster from “Nyad” and America Ferrera from “Barbie”. Despite initial high expectations for “The Color Purple”, it was Brooks who ultimately secured the film’s only nomination.

“I am truly grateful for everything that has come my way. I know that none of this would be possible without the support of others, and we all understand that success cannot be achieved alone,” Brooks shared enthusiastically through a Zoom call all the way from New Zealand, where she is currently filming a movie.

“At first, I was intimidated by the task at hand, stepping into the shoes of the iconic Oprah Winfrey. But now, I feel like I am carrying on the legacy of The Color Purple as a team,” she added.

The group of highest nominees, including “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon,” formed an impressive quartet of Oscar contenders. Each of these films, from Nolan’s epic biopic to Gerwig’s almost-musical, Scorsese’s dark Western, and Lanthimos’ visually stunning fantasy, utilized a wide range of cinematic techniques to deliver impactful and, at times, unsettling stories.
