“Barbie,” the record-breaking box office hit, raked in multiple nominations, just shy of matching its partner in the popular “Barbenheimer” frenzy. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the feminist comedy raked in an impressive $1.4 billion in ticket sales and secured eight nominations, including a nod for Best Picture, Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor, and two songs vying for Best Song, “What Was I Made For” and “I’m Just Ken.”

In the category of best supporting actress, all eyes were on Da’Vine Joy Randolph from “The Holdovers” as she confidently made her way towards her potential first Oscar win. She was accompanied by a talented group including Blunt, Danielle Brooks from “The Color Purple”, Jodie Foster from “Nyad” and America Ferrera from “Barbie”. Despite initial high expectations for “The Color Purple”, it was Brooks who ultimately secured the film’s only nomination.
“I am truly grateful for everything that has come my way. I know that none of this would be possible without the support of others, and we all understand that success cannot be achieved alone,” Brooks shared enthusiastically through a Zoom call all the way from New Zealand, where she is currently filming a movie.
“At first, I was intimidated by the task at hand, stepping into the shoes of the iconic Oprah Winfrey. But now, I feel like I am carrying on the legacy of The Color Purple as a team,” she added.
